A New God
Well, not really new, but very different! There's a very interesting interview on Beliefnet with Neale Donald Walsch. He predicts a sea change in the world's spirituality which will result in such a distinct concept of God from the present one that we will thinks it's brand new. What he describes is a Process Theology deity without calling it that.
He strikes a positive chord about the planet's future, and actually it's one I share. I'm not widely known for my optimistic outlook, but I have long thought that humanity is at a major turning point, and that we will make the right decision. What seems to be such backlash, i.e., George W's war on terror and Iraq and anyone else, Osama's army, etc., is really the dying spasms of a past its time point of view. The exclusivist top down kind of social structure (modeled after monotheism) where everyone kow-tows to the boss is on its way out. It's been taking a long time leaving when viewed from the length of one life-time, but it's really moving quite fast when viewed from a historical perspective. The two World Wars of the 20th Century proved that we are fully capable of destroying our own home, and due to that realization, humanity got serious about keeping that from happening.
To keep nuclear holocaust from happening is requiring not only treaties, but a complete restructuring of global society. Technology has only added to the restructuring, not been a hindrance to it. The change has been so quick that many don't even notice it. Much has been accomplished in the area of true liberty and independence of all peoples. It wasn't that long ago that every country had legally sanctioned second and third class citizens. Yes, there are places where slavery still exists, but no where will gladly admit it or even want anyone else to find out about it. That has not been the case for very long. Yes, technology is bringing about social change on a global scale that's never been witnessed before. Granted, not all of it is positive, but on balance, humanity is evolving to a higher place. It feels really strange to me to be sounding to positive about the state of the world, but I believe we are at the threshold of a much sought after change. Now is not the time to lose heart..."Ours is no caravan of despair, come yet again come."
